2009 Redeemer Conference for Pastors
| May 4, 2009 4:00 pm | to | May 5, 2009 1:00 pm |
I’ll be attending and leading worship through singing at this year’s pastors conference at my home church. The theme of the conference is The Minister’s Fainting Fits: Depression and Discouragement in Pastoral Ministry and it will be held next week, May 4th and 5th (see schedule). I have the privilege of giving a pre-conference seminar both for those attending the conference who want to come a bit early and for any area worship leaders or pastors who might be interested (for free). The topic for the seminar is the same one that I’ll be sharing about in August at the Worship God conference, “Reviving the Hymns.” Here’s the link to the information page. It will be from 4-5:30 on Monday, May 4th at Redeemer Bible Church. Here is my description of the seminar:
I invite all conference attendees, worship directors and pastors to attend this seminar (at no cost). I will address the trend in the Evangelical church to forsake historical hymns for contemporary worship songs. In addition, I will present a vision for using the treasure of Christian song from previous generations while being open to adapting them to modern musical styles. My goal is to answer questions such as:
- Which hymns are worth keeping alive and where can I find them?
- How do I arrange hymn tunes with modern musical styles?
- When do I update a hymn’s lyrics?
- When do I use traditional or modern tunes for hymns?
My hope is that all those who attend will gain a better understanding and appreciation for the depth and power of hymns and will grow in their desire to use and promote them in their local churches.

Reformed Praise presents Martin Luther's setting of Psalm 130 in a fresh, reflective, piano-driven setting suitable for a wide range of worship music styles.
