I Trust You

Posted July 10th, 2003

There are not many hymns or modern songs about trusting God, yet it is one of the most fundamental aspects of our Christian life. A life of faith is a life of trust - obeying God regardless of our present or expected circumstances. In this song, we pour out our heart to our Lord to tell Him that we trust Him for everything. Not only did we trust Him in salvation, but we continue to trust Him for power to obey, to supply all our real needs, and in the promise of future glory.

You are Worthy

Posted July 10th, 2003

Revelation chapter 5 gives us a glimpse into what is in store for us in heaven. We see the Lord Jesus as the Lamb who is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing. (Revalation 5:12) This song reminds us of why Jesus is worthy - because of who He is. He is our prophet, priest, and king, the Lord of lords and sun of righteousness. He is our peace, our sacrifice, and our all-in-all, and will one day be our true glory-crown as we worship Him forever in heaven.

Seek Him First

Posted July 10th, 2003

These powerful and touching lyrics describe the fact that our one true joy is in God himself. All else - earthly pleasure - is a joy that fades, a treasure that fails, ceaseless longings and vain desires. As we sing, we celebrate that God replaces these empty pursuits with His peace - the peace of knowing that we have been forgiven. May we obey the Lord's command to seek Him first. (Matthew 6:33)

Our Redeemer All Adore

Posted July 10th, 2003

This hymn traditionally starts with the third line "From all that dwell below the skies". This is a powerful song about the fact that God deserves worship from all of creation and in fact, will one day receive it as every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11). All of mankind will praise Him for His eternal mercy and truth and this praise will go on forever - til suns shall rise and set no more. What a joy that one day all will adore our Redeemer!

The Wondrous Cross

Posted July 10th, 2003

This is a very well known and well beloved hymn from Isaac Watts. In fact, there is another modern version of this hymn from WorshipTogether.com that is gainging popularity. Like many of the other hymns we have reworked that other songwriters have also begun to compose new tunes for, our version is amazingly similar to the the WorshipTogether version. The running theme of this hymn is the incomparable riches of the cross compared to earthly treasures, thus the traditional first verse makes a natural chorus. Isaac wrote of our need to resign all that entices us away from setting all of our affections on God, even if it means giving up the whole world (the whole realm of nature). Truly the love God demonstrated for us on the cross demands we give our all back to Him, especially in worship.

Search Me, O God

Posted July 10th, 2003

This hymn is based on Psalm 139 and taken from a previous version of Psalms and Hymns of Reformed Worship. This well-beloved Psalm about God's wonderful and intimate work of creating us reminds us that all we have is because God has given it. God is both the author of our very life and the plans of each day, ordering each by His perfect, precious plan. Reflecting on God's infinite, wise, thoughts will certainly move us to honor and praise our heavenly Father through song!

A Lamp to Guide My Feet

Posted July 10th, 2003

This song is drawn directly from Psalm 119:97-112 and does a good job of capturing the beauty of How God has expressed how we are to view His Word, the Bible. Not only is it to be a lamp to our feet (a now well-known phrase), but should be our daily teacher, our anchor, it should be precious to us, and we should rely on its promises.

Such Love

Posted July 10th, 2003

Another song about the blessed doctrine of election, "Such Love" captures the wonder and love that God's eternal, sovereign choice instills in His people. How overwhelming the truth that God's love is so great that He covered millions of sins - ruthless rebellion against His law and authority, in Christ's righteousness. Regarding election, this song expresses the fact that God chose us before creation. He loved us with an everlasting love from before time began, purchasing the Church as a people for His own possession. How can we respond except by singing with the author, "Such everlasting love demands and everlasting song from me."

I Will Sing

Posted July 10th, 2003

Philip Bliss, a well known hymn author, penned these beloved lyrics in the 19th century. A song about singing (which we find makes a very special song indeed), "I Will Sing" is an endearing tale of what our Savior has done for us. From the wondrous love shown in His debt-paying sacrifice, to His conquering power which gives us the victory over death, singing this hymn reminds us of why it is we can sing our praises to our Lord with such joy.

Again I Say, Rejoice

Posted July 10th, 2003

Based partly on Philippians 4:4, this song describes why we can find our joy in God. How amazing it is that God actually commands us to be joyful always. In the first verse, we remember that Christ's triumph over the enemy of our sin is what makes our joy possible. In the second verse, we find joy in remembering that Christ is the Judge of all mankind and will one day take us to be with Him in heaven. In the chorus, we get to proclaim God's command to rejoice - and sing it again.
